Editor's Note: You can read the press release here from Rep. Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) regarding her introduction of LRB-0188. In the release, she comments, "Marijuana prohibition has not worked for Wisconsin. Ending this prohibition in our state would promote personal freedom and liberty, create financial opportunity, and increase safety and security in our communities. We have spent countless taxpayer dollars, imprisoned non-violent offenders, perpetuated falsehoods, and created a dangerous black market. This must end,” Rep. Sargent stated."
A bill introduced Monday in Wisconsin would make it legal to use marijuana for both medical and recreational use.
Rep. Melissa Sargent, D-Madison, announced the bill. She said it would reduce crime and boost the economy.
It would make it legal for anyone over 21 to use marijuana.
“There are pieces that will be modeled after Colorado and Washington, other communities and states, and there are also parts that are very unique to the state of Wisconsin,” said Rep. Sargent.
The bill would allow Wisconsin residents to have up to 0.5 ounces of the drug. Non-residents could possess up to half that amount, or 0.25 ounces.
