COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Pro-marijuana group ResponsibleOhio received approval Wednesday to begin collecting signatures for its proposed law to expunge pot offenses once marijuana becomes legal in Ohio.

The group's Fresh Start Act would allow Ohioans convicted of marijuana offenses legalized by the group's constitutional amendment to have those records expunged, or destroyed.

In a 3-2 vote, the Ohio Ballot Board on Wednesday certified the Fresh Start Act as containing one proposed law, giving ResponsibleOhio the green light to begin collecting the necessary 91,677 signatures of Ohio voters to move forward in the initiated statute process. If ResponsibleOhio's marijuana legalization amendment to the Ohio Constitution passes this November and lawmakers do not approve the proposed expungement law, ResponsibleOhio could put the measure before voters in 2016.
