Mass. Marijuana Group Slams Age Limit


The group that spearheaded the push to legalize recreational marijuana in Massachusetts is opposing a proposal by Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg to raise the weed-use age limit to 25.

“The voters indicated their desire to end the state’s prohibition on marijuana and to end it in the way we proposed,” said Jim Borghesani, spokesman for the Yes on 4 campaign. “It is unacceptable for the Legislature to presume that they know better than the voters of Massachusetts.”

Borghesani said, according to his group’s polling, most voters felt that alcohol was more dangerous than marijuana and more likely to lead to injury and death.

“I don’t think I’ve seen anyone in the Legislature propose raising the drinking age,” Borghesani said.
