One in three Irish citizens believe marijuana should be legalized, according to a new Behaviour and Attitudes lifestyle poll reported in the Irish Independent. Â Thirty-six percent of people between the ages of 20 and 49 said they would like to see marijuana legalized.
The poll was conducted on behalf of the Irish Independent and Today FM.
"Just 4pc [%] of those surveyed said they smoke cannabis, marijuana or hash at least once a week, while 88pc [%] said they never or rarely used it," reports the Independent.
Men favored legalization more than women, according to the poll.
A European Commission poll conducted a year ago, and cited by the Irish Independent, found that more than half of younger Irish people–ages 15 to 24–want to see the drug legalized. Sixteen percent of those had said they had smoked marijuana in the past 30 days.
