LAKEPORT— The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to approve a resolution establishing new policy for Measure C cannabis cultivation tax collection.
The resolution defers the county’s collection of Measure C tax from permitted cannabis businesses until crop cultivation has actually begun, doing away with the taxation of would-be cannabis growers as soon as their permits were granted—a practice which some of those involved in the Lake County cannabis industry have perceived as “unfair” and even illegal.
In support of the board’s adoption of the resolution Tuesday, Bobby Dutcher, a Lake County realtor who has been involved in cannabis-related land sales, suggested the county’s early collection of Measure C tax had de-incentivized the county from helping cultivators get on their feet.
