MISSOULA, Mont. - Supporters of Montana Initiative 182 released a list of what they say are over 100 community leaders and lawmakers who want a new medical marijuana law passed in November's election.
I-182 is the result of an initiative state lawmakers passed in 2011 that strictly regulated the sale and distribution of medical marijuana. Part of that initiative stayed on hold until mid-2016, when Montana's Supreme Court upheld its legality -- specifically the part that limited distributors to sell medical marijuana to a maximum of three patients. The initiative shut down several providers and left thousands of cardholders with no access to medical marijuana.
In 33 days, Montana voters will decide on medical marijuana's sale and distribution regulations across the state, but the vote doesn't come without contest. While the general public mostly acknowledges medical marijuana's health benefits, much of the disagreement surrounds how to regulate it.
