Five mature cannabis markets are still showing signs of growth during the first half of 2023, but another six states continue to experience retail sales dips compared to the same period from last year.
Notably, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan and Montana sales figures represent encouraging increases at the mid-point of this year, while Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington are struggling with year-over-year sales declines.
The downward trends observed in the latter six markets are, in part, attributed to the prevailing macroeconomic challenges the industry has faced during the past 12-plus months, such as price compression and inflation that have had rippling effects across the nation.
