Missouri regulators are investigating fraudulent medical cannabis certifications after the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) discovered that patients have submitted certification forms signed by an unauthorized doctor, according to a KMOV.com report.

The state has indicated that there is no evidence to suggest that patients knew the doctor listed on the form was not the doctor they met with, the news outlet reported, and affected patients will have 30 days to submit a valid certification to the department in order to keep their medical cannabis registrations.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s office is investigating the matter further, according to KMOV.com.

“Through our many types of regulatory efforts, we remain watchful for any wrongdoing in order to protect Missourians,” DHSS Director Dr. Randall Williams said in a public statement. “Our main concern is how this fraudulent activity negatively affects patients, and we are working to minimize the impact on them while also holding accountable those who are responsible."
