Known for its earthy, fruity and sweet aromas, Blue Dream rose to the occasion for the third straight year as the most popular cultivar in California in 2025.

What some consumers refer to as a “miracle strain” for chronic pain and other ailments, this sativa-dominant hybrid cross between Blueberry and Haze is also popular among medical cannabis patients seeking to treat symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, according to Leafly. While Blue Dream has become a household name nationwide, it was first made popular by growers in Northern California.

As the No. 1 best-selling flower, pre-roll and vapor pen strain in California in 2025, Blue Dream nearly swept the field, according to cannabis data-driven tech company Headset. The only category it didn’t top was for best-selling concentrate strains. It took No. 9 in that category.

Now a back-to-back-to-back champion in the flower category, Blue Dream captured $21.7 million in sales from January to November 2025, besting runner-up consumer favorites Cereal Milk ($17.1 million), Gelato ($16 million) and OG #18 ($14.4 million), according to Headset.

The lone newcomer in California’s best-selling flower strain’s top 10 list for 2025 was King Louis, which took the No. 8 spot with $10.6 million in sales. Gush Mintz dropped out of the top 10 best-sellers.

With countless cultivars in California’s marketplace, these individual strains made up a small percentage of the state’s $1.23 billion in flower sales for the first 11 months of 2025, according to sales data from the California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC). For example, Blue Dream captured roughly 1.8% of all flower sales.

In the pre-roll category, California cannabis consumers spent $26.6 million on Blue Dream, blowing runner-up Strawberry Cough ($9.5 million) and third-place Pineapple Express ($8.5 million) out of the water, according to Headset.

Meanwhile, Cereal Milk captured $7.7 million in pre-roll sales, and King Louis commanded $7.3 million, marking their debut in the top 10 list for this category in 2025. Watermelon and Maui Wowie got bumped off the list.

Pre-rolls mixed with sativa-only strains ($16.5 million) were also more popular than those with indica-only strains ($13.8 million) and hybrid strains ($13 million), according to Headset.

Overall, Blue Dream captured roughly 3.8% of California’s $690.8 million in pre-roll sales for the 11-month reporting period, according to DCC sales data.

While the top 10 best-selling cultivars in this category went unchanged from 2024, Watermelon gained the most market share with $4.7 million more in sales in 2025 compared to the previous year.

Overall, Blue Dream captured roughly 3.5% of California’s $1.26 billion in vape sales for the 11-month reporting period, according to DCC sales data.

Finally, in the concentrate category, California cannabis consumers spent $7.4 million on D Cure as the best-selling cultivar, which more than doubled its closest competitors: Papaya ($2.7 million), Strawberry ($2.4 million), Bananas ($1.8 million) and Cream ($1.8 million), according to Headset.

D Cure, a cross between Chemdog and Gage Green Group’s Grape Stomper, was also the best-selling concentrate strain in 2024 with $3.8 million in sales. With uplifting, talkative and happy effects, D Cure is popular among those hoping to alleviate inflammation, pain and arthritis, according to Leafly.

Overall, D Cure captured about 2.4% of California’s $306.4 million in concentrate sales for the 11-month reporting period, according to DCC sales data.

Meanwhile, Sherbert ($1.3 million) and Pineapple ($1.2 million) were newcomers in this category in 2025, knocking Gelato and Donny Burger out of the top 10 list, according to Headset.
