Cyberattacks are not just a problem for big-ticket corporations such as Home Depot and Target. “We’re all a target because of how connected we are,” says Brian Schnese, a consultant with insurance brokerage HUB International’s risk services division. “But because of the nature of cannabis, there are some unique threat vectors. If you’re a retail operation or dispensary, you are handling PII (personal identifiable information) or PHI (protected health information). So, this industry faces unique threats in terms of the sensitivity of the data it handles.”
