Solano County, Calif., Board of Supervisors Say No to Commercial Cannabis Cultivation

The Board extended an ordinance banning commercial cultivation for one year and were split on giving staff direction on how to proceed regarding commercial cannabis licenses.


The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday slammed the door on commercial cannabis activity in rural areas.

First, they voted 4-1 in favor of extending the Interim Urgency Ordinance banning commercial cannabis activities for a year.

Supervisor Monica Brown was the lone dissenter.

Emphasizing that she previously voted against the ordinance and would do so again.

“I still believe it’s unnecessary,” she said, calling the ordinance’s language “hyperbolic and overdramatic.”

Speaker James Hinton also asked that supervisors reconsider, as pockets of rural areas sit in industrial locales in Vallejo, he said, and would make great spaces for light manufacturing of marijuana edibles.

“I think it would generate jobs and revenues,” he explained. “That would be a win-win for Solano County.”

Next, supervisors were split on giving staff direction on how to proceed regarding commercial cannabis licenses.
