To get Guam’s stalled medical marijuana program moving forward, the head of public health wants to hold the first official meeting of the medical marijuana commission by the end of the month.
Since lawmakers authorized the Department of Public Health and Social Services to start the island’s medicinal cannabis program five months ago, the Medical Cannabis Regulation Commission has not yet met.

The commission will have 11 members. Under the law, seven include Public Health Director James Gillan, or his designee, as well as the heads of the agricultural department, legislative health committee, Guam Environmental Protection Agency and Board of Medical Examiners, or their designees, a member of the public chosen by the governor and a member of the public chosen by the Legislature.
