WASHINGTON, D.C. — Travel guru Rick Steves will visit the nation’s capital on Tuesday to advocate for legislation to end federal marijuana prohibition, according to a press release. Steves will join representatives of the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) and the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) for Congressional briefings on Tuesday morning to discuss the positive experiences states are having with regulating marijuana and why lawmakers should support legislation that allows states to determine their own marijuana policies. The Senate briefing will take place at 11:45 a.m. ET in Room 188 of the Russell Senate Office Building. The House of Representatives briefing will take place at 4:30 p.m. ET in Room 2247 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The House briefing was organized in cooperation with the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, a group of representatives from states that have made marijuana legal for adults and who support reforming federal marijuana laws.
Members of the media are invited to both events, and attendance at the House briefing is encouraged.
Steves was a major proponent of the law passed by Washington state voters in 2012 regulating and taxing marijuana. Tuesday’s events are part of a regional tour, during which Steves and other marijuana policy reform advocates are urging lawmakers to support legislation to make marijuana legal in their states.
