New York – More than 1 million small and medium-sized businesses are taking a "wait-and-see" approach to surviving the "Millenium Bug." According to a report from the Small Business Administration, 1.5 million small businesses are choosing to wait until Jan. 1 before addressing the Y2K problem. These business owners have decided to take a reactive approach (fix it when it breaks), rather than a proactive approach (fix it before it breaks to prevent problems).
Some experts say that the "wait-and-see" approach is wise for small businesses because they will most likely be immune to any Y2K problems – thereby saving money in the process. Others, however, argue that small owners are playing "Y2K Roulette" by underestimating how much their businesses rely on computers – thereby leaving the door open for the "Millenium Bug" to wreck havoc on their businesses.
