Legal Cannabis for Consumer Safety, an alliance of licensed cannabis businesses in California, is urging the state to adopt stricter safety regulations surrounding vapes.

The group submitted a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom Nov. 4, requesting that the state set tougher rules for vape ingredients and devices, as well as crack down on illegal cannabis dispensaries in the wake of the nationwide outbreak of vape-related lung illness and death, according to The Seattle Times.

In its letter, Legal Cannabis for Consumer Safety said regulations should be imposed to prohibit additives, cutting agents and artificial flavoring in cannabis vaping products, the news outlet reported. The organization also requested $10 million in additional funds to shutter illicit retailers, and proposed stricter standards for heavy metal testing of vape hardware, The Seattle Times reported.

Legal Cannabis for Consumer Safety is made up of cannabis cultivators, manufacturers, retailers, testing labs and industry groups, and includes the California Cannabis Industry Association, Loudpack, Flow Kana and Eaze, according to The Seattle Times.
