GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Ecofibre, one of the world’s largest hemp companies, has opened a testing and production facility in Georgetown, Ky., according to ABC 36 Lexington. This facility will serve as the Australian company’s headquarters in the U.S.
The 44,000-square-foot, $16 million facility in the Lane’s Run Business Park will eventually employ 60 people.
Ecofibre broke ground on the facility in May 2019, and it is the company’s second facility in Kentucky, along with a farm in Cynthiana. This location is a testing and processing facility to various hemp products.
The expansion of an international hemp company within Kentucky goes along with the state’s push to become a center of hemp production in the U.S. Around 900 independent farmers and 200 businesses operate in the Kentucky hemp industry.
