Lawmakers who represent this region are near unanimous in their support of a proposed Institute of Cannabis Research at Colorado State University-Pueblo, as well as state tax funds to support it.
This first-of-a-kind facility would host national, scholarly conferences and produce a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal.
While CSU-Pueblo has received $220,000 from the Pueblo County government, its leaders have their eyes set on marijuana tax money that has been set aside by the state for education.
Lawmakers see the institute as being a good match for these funds.
“I think it would be a good use of that money,” said state Sen. Larry Crowder, R-Alamosa.
