State-legal cannabis businesses from California to Ohio have announced they are donating turkeys to complete the Thanksgiving dinners of families in the communities in which they operate.

The Landing

The Landing Dispensaries announced they are celebrating Ohioans' overwhelming support for the passing of the citizen-led adult-use cannabis ballot initiative Issue 2 by partnering with the Cleveland Food Bank, Mid-Ohio Food Collective, Freestore Food Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank to feed 10,000 through turkey donations this Thanksgiving season, according to a press release from the Ohio-based company.

The donations will be distributed to at-risk members of the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Monroe and Huron communities, where The Landing's five Ohio dispensaries are located. Firelands Scientific, the vertically integrated company operating The Landing stores, also has five retail locations in West Virginia.

"Our teams came together to find an impactful way to contribute to communities where we have a retail presence, so we partnered with Atlantic Food Distributors and key food banks across Ohio for a large quantity turkey donation to feed at-risk Ohioans this Thanksgiving," said Rob McCourt, Firelands Scientific Vice President of Commercial, in a press release.

Gelato Canna Co.

In addition, San Diego retailer Gelato Canna Co. announced in a press release that it was giving away 700 turkeys at their Lake Elsinore dispensary. Turkeys will be distributed starting Nov. 18 on a first come, first served basis, and will continue while supplies last.

"This last year has been especially hard on so many people thanks to inflation and this unpredictable economy, so I worked with our amazing team to put together this giveaway as a way to show our deep appreciation for everything this tight knit community has done for us over the last 15 months," said Nathan Sadler, operating partner at Gelato Dispensary, which also has a presence in Michigan, in a press release.

Puff Cannabis Company

Puff Cannabis Company, headquartered in Madison Heights, Michigan, also announced its second annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, which will take place Nov. 15-21 at its 12 Puff locations in Michigan.

This Thanksgiving, Puff Cannabis Company will be giving away more than 2,500 turkeys to those in need – customers and non- customers alike – with a focus on the communities in which they operate, which include Madison Heights, Utica, Bay City, Hamtramck, Traverse City, Oscoda, Sturgis, River Rouge, Kalamazoo, and Monroe.

Light’N Up Cannabis Company

Light'N Up Cannabis Company announced its third annual turkey giveaway at its store in Flint, Mich., Nov. 18, when the company will distribute 1,000 turkeys.

The locally and veteran-owned cannabis company will provide the turkeys to individuals 21 and older at the store, and will also set some aside for specific organizations. 100 will go directly to Vet Life, a local nonprofit organization that serves veterans, and 20 will go to North End Soup Kitchen and several other Flint area churches and organizations.

“Once you get something like this started, it takes on a life of its own and is more fun and more rewarding each year. The gratitude people express is heartwarming,” said Light’N Up owner and founder Kyle Cohee. “We’ve been through some tough times here in Flint, and people deserve every single break we can provide. Giving them the central part of a Thanksgiving meal is our honor and our way of thanking the people of Flint for supporting our store."
