Pomona, Calif., Aug. 1, 2023 – PRESS RELEASE - California cannabis retailer and brand STIIIZY presented Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval with a check for $293,539 to help improve Pomona parks and schools this past Friday at the John F. Kennedy Park.
STIIIZY’s Director of Social Impact DeRon Waller and Vice President of Expansion and Public Affairs, Stephanie Uy, who both worked directly with Pomona city officials to identify and support community organizations most in need and were on hand to present the donation as part of STIIIZY’s ongoing commitment to support the communities it operates in.
Joining Mayor Sandoval at the ceremony were a wide range of community representatives, including Mark Ramos, the President of UFCW Local 1428.
“It’s a tremendous honor and privilege to come back to Pomona one year later and demonstrate the positive power of cannabis by directing even more resources to impacted communities that will help them heal from the devastation done by the war on drugs,” explained Waller. “The operating license agreement we made in cooperation with the City of Pomona sets aside a certain percentage of our sales that specifically goes toward improving schools and parks within a half-mile radius of our STIIIZY Pomona location, and we’re excited to donate $86,157 more than last year.”
Waller continued, “This is truly a collaborative community effort and that’s exactly what the healing process should look like. Old and new friends, supporters and collaborators, city officials and activists coming together to improve their hometown. It’s so gratifying to be able to offer our customers the satisfaction of knowing that some of the money they spend with us goes toward improving their own backyard.”
In 2022, STIIIZY’s check presentation ceremony was attended by city and brand officials. However, this year the partners were flanked by Pomona union leaders and representatives from a multitude of community organizations STIIIZY Joint Efforts worked with on projects from neighborhood clean-ups to resource and food distribution, including SoCal Services Corps, Project Hope, IndigeKnowledge, Pomona Connect, and the The Self Care Lab Boxing & Fitness Club.
STIIIZY Pomona is located at 1605 W Holt Ave, Pomona, Calif., 91768, and operates from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The store first opened on Nov. 20, 2020 during the first year of the pandemic.
