[PRESS RELEASE] – NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2025 – The Travel Agency, New York City’s premier cannabis destination, took its first test flight with a pilot “Cannabis Carrier Pigeon Program,” sending pigeons fitted with mini-backpacks to deliver cannabis across the city. The pilot program, created with professional pigeon handlers' nods to New York’s original couriers and reimagines what modern cannabis delivery can look like.
“As The Travel Agency, it’s only natural we’d explore all modalities of travel for our delivery service, even pigeons,” The Travel Agency co-founder Arana Hankin-Biggers said. “And being in NYC, we thought there’s no better courier than the ever-present and beloved pigeon.”
A flock of 20 pigeons starred in the trial run, completing symbolic delivery routes under handler supervision. Two professional pigeon trainers and on-set animal safety staff oversaw the “test flights,” and the program even earned an official humane treatment certification. Each bird was outfitted with a custom mini-backpack designed to carry up to one gram of product. The backpacks went through multiple prototypes before the team landed on a design that prioritized comfort, and according to trainers, the birds adapted in just a few days.
Coming in 2026, the Carrier Pigeon Program will expand, giving New Yorkers the fastest and most environmentally friendly delivery service the city has ever seen.
The Cannabis Carrier Pigeon Program is not about putting birds to work; it’s about reimagining delivery with a very New York sense of ingenuity. By enlisting the city’s most iconic residents as couriers, The Travel Agency has created what might be New York’s smartest delivery system yet – using what the city already has in abundance to outfly traffic, cut through congestion, and get orders where they need to go.
Orders placed online at TheTravelAgency.co will be fulfilled by a specially trained fleet of pigeons flying direct routes from the Downtown, Brooklyn and Manhattan locations, offering same-day delivery across three boroughs.
