Rescheduling cannabis, the SAFER Banking Act, Florida’s potential for adult-use legalization, and the Farm Bill’s reauthorization represent focal points for the industry in 2024. And Cannabis Business Times’ readers continue to heavily engage with these topics as we round out April.

Leading our monthly list of top 10 articles was a roundup of all these storylines, as well as many others, in a piece published on April 20: “Federal Cannabis Legalization and Reform: Where Are We in 2024?” This article also touched on three federal cannabis legalization bills in play this Congress.

Speaking of April 20, the industry’s 4/20 holiday fell on Saturday this year, already one of the bigger sales days of the week for many cannabis retailers. The weekend landing also paved way for many anticipated celebrations, from consumption lounge parties to music festivals, comedy shows and a countdown in Times Square. A roundup of “4/20 Deals and Events” took the No. 2 spot in this month’s most-read articles.

Among other stories readers engaged with most this month included those on the 15% of California cannabis businesses in default on their taxes; an in-depth report on municipal op outs in states that have legalized adult-use cannabis; and Virginia’s anti-cannabis legalization governor’s veto of an adult-use sales bill nearly three years after the state enacted a law allowing adult possession and home grows.
