Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe signed into law today that allows for the use of cannabidiol (CBD) oil or Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THC-A) oil with a written prescription from a doctor, and only for the treatment of intractable epilepsy, according to WMDT.com. The General Assembly approved the legislation early this month.

CBD and THC-A are non-psychoative components of marijuana–meaning they do not produce the "high" typically associated with marijuana consumption.

A bill–SB686–also has been introduced in the state to eliminate criminal prosecution and the possibility of jail time for possession of small amounts of marijuana, and reduces the fine from $500 to $100.
