PLYMOUTH – A group seeking to open a medical marijuana shop in Plymouth has reached an agreement with the town as it makes a second attempt to secure a state license.
The group, a non-profit organization called Medical Marijuana of Massachusetts, was initially rated by the state as one of the top applicants during the first-round licensing for medical marijuana dispensaries, but later had its license rescinded. The group sued the state and is now, by court order, once again moving through the regulatory process.
Kevin O’Reilly, a consultant for the group, said the agreement reached with Plymouth officials last week “is essentially the same as what we were planning a year ago.” O’Reilly said the agreement would create three “pools of money” for the town while essentially taxing the group’s property twice.
