PORTLAND, Ore. -- As Oregon medical marijuana dispensaries get ready for recreational sales on Oct. 1, cannabis growers are already scrambling to keep up with demand.
Because the state won't hand out permits to grow recreational marijuana until after January 2016, there will be a limited amount of supply.
Somewhere in Clackamas County, Jesse Peters and about eight other employees of his almost entirely carbon-neutral business, Eco Firma Farms, tend to 48 marijuana plants every day. He pays extra to buy 100 percent wind power from Portland General Electric, and will even be honored for it in October.
Legally right now, he can only grow six plants for every medical marijuana cardholder he has under his umbrella.
