Four researchers at the University of Alberta are receiving $300,000 in funding to delve into the realm of medical cannabis.
Their “joint” endeavour will span over roughly four years, analyzing how patients who use medical cannabis and patients who don’t interact differently with the health care system.
The funding—half from Mitacs Canada and half through Aurora Cannabis—comes directly through Mitacs, a non-profit research organization, which has partnered with Aurora, a Canadian producer of medical cannabis.
Because the researchers’ funding comes via Mitacs, they are able to work independently, said Dean Eurich, program director for the clinical epidemiology program at the University of Alberta and Canada research chair in chronic disease prevention.
