Delta-8 THC Gets Callout From Hemp Association: Week in Review

Plus, the USDA’s final rule on hemp is moving ahead as written and will take effect March 22.

This week, the U.S. Hemp Roundtable made waves among delta-8 THC producers when it issued a warning against “marketing products, under the guise of the hemp name, for any intoxicating value or euphoric effect,” calling it “irresponsible.” The USHR’s statement comes as the legality of delta-8-THC has come into question with administration of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) interim final rule on hemp. Meanwhile, the USDA has confirmed the final rule will be moving ahead as written to take effect March 22. The rule was under review by the new administration, leaving some to wonder whether the final version would include further amendments. Read more

  • As water use complaints and violations landed on the radar of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, the state decided to lean in and see if an educational approach might help course-correct the burgeoning industry. It’s just the start of a broader initiative to align the hemp industry within the context of Oregon’s environmental regulations. Read more

  • Canadian company Canopy Growth has broken into the CBD beverage market. Tara Rozalowsky, the company’s vice president of beverages and edibles, called the market “extremely promising, and with the continued growth the industry is seeing, we know it has the potential to really disrupt other traditional beverage formats, from sparkling water and soda to beer, wine and spirits.” Read more

  • CBD manufacturers have banded together to submit applications to sell their products in the European market. In February 2020, the U.K. FSA set a deadline of March 31, 2021, for companies to submit safety dossiers and receive validation for products that are already on shelves in England and Wales.
