STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A bill requiring the state Department of Health (NYSDOH) list all doctors certified to recommend medical marijuana to patients on its website was signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo late Wednesday, said Sen. Diane Savino (D-Staten Island).

Savino, the primary sponsor of the bill, said the NYSDOH will now have to provide a complete list of doctors who have been certified to participate in the state's medical marijuana program.

While Health Department records show there are 28 Staten Island-based doctors certified through the state's program, only 17 are listed on the website.

"They (NYSDOH) were parsing some of the names to those who would agree to put their names on a list," said Savino.

"We said that wasn't sufficient because there were too many people out there without access to a doctor. Now, every doctor who has agreed to take the training course and is certified in New York state will be listed on the state's website," she added.
