Ohio has named its level II medical marijuana cultivators and companies seeking dispensary licenses must act quickly to submit their applications to the state.
The Department of Commerce awarded provisional level II cultivator licenses to 11 companies on Nov. 3, according to the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (MMCP) website. The organization is working with the state’s Board of Pharmacy to accept applications for provisional dispensary licenses, which must be submitted by 2 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Companies that hold provisional level II cultivator licenses can be found here along with their applications. Provisional licensees have up to 10 days to choose their cultivation facility locations.
Provisional level I cultivator licensees will be announced in the coming weeks.
A webinar, Q&A threads and FAQs for the online dispensary application have been added to the MMCP website. The online application and resources can be found here.
Ohio legalized medical marijuana on Sept. 8, 2016 through House Bill 523, and the MMCP allows people with certain medical conditions to purchase and use medical marijuana upon the recommendation of a state-licensed physician who has been certified by the State Medical Board. The legislation set the basic framework for the program, but specific rules and guidelines for cultivating, processing, testing, dispensing and using medical marijuana are to be set by various state agencies.
Patient identification cards aren’t being issued by the MMCP at this time, but the state’s Board of Pharmacy will issue ID cards once the patient registry becomes available, which will be no later than September 2018, according to the MMCP website. More information about patients and caregivers can be found here.
