Good Grades, the first woman-owned adult-use dispensary in New York, and the first in Queens, will open its doors to the public at 2 p.m. March 30.
Good Grades is a family business owned and operated by Extasy James, an entrepreneur previously criminalized by cannabis prohibition, and her cousin, Michael James Jr., a Queens native and attorney. The New York State Social Equity Cannabis Investment Fund supports the dispensary.
The dispensary will open as a "pop-up," as the fund provides licensees with the opportunity to open on a short-term basis to fast-track sales, according to a press release.
"With the opening of Good Grades in Queens, we're continuing to build on our progress to create a safe, regulated cannabis industry in New York," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. "New York is working to support entrepreneurs and ensure that consumers can purchase safe, legal products while supporting their communities."
New York launched its adult-use program in late December 2022 and has since only opened five adult-use dispensaries. Good Grades will be the sixth.
