Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has signed legislation that allows the state’s patients to access FDA-approved cannabis medications, as first reported by Marijuana Moment.

Tate signed Senate Bill 3056 Oct. 8, effectively removing FDA-approved cannabis-derived drugs from Schedule V.

“I’m against efforts to make marijuana mainstream,” Reeves tweeted following the signing. “That said—helping people with safe treatments should not be off the table. Just signed a bill for kids like Brady and Brianna with a rare form of epilepsy to get FDA-approved treatment.”

The move comes weeks before voters head to the polls to decide on two competing ballot measures that would legalize medical cannabis in the state.

Mississippians for Compassionate Care successfully qualified its medical cannabis measure, Initiative 65, for this year’s ballot, while state legislators put forth a competing measure, Alternative 65A.
