
Maine’s new medical cannabis workgroup will meet for the first time Sept. 28 to launch efforts to streamline industry regulations.
The group, created by the Office of Marijuana Policy (OMP), is tasked with advising on regulatory issues and best practices in patient access and education, and will contribute to improvements in the state’s medical cannabis program, according to a Mainebiz report.
Workgroup members were selected through a competitive application process, the news outlet reported, and OMP representatives will chair the group and join in discussions.
The following members will serve on the medical cannabis workgroup:
- Registered caregivers John Black of Earth Keeper Cannabis LLC; Catherine Lewis of Homegrown of Hallowell LLC; Paul McCarrier of 1 Mill; Susan Meehan of Mae’s Mamas Supplements and Consulting; Joel Pepin of JAR Cannabis Company and SJR Labs; and David Vickers of ORIGINs, Shwaggle Farms and Sundown Beverage Co.
- Joshua Quint of Canuvo and Heather Sullivan of Curaleaf, representing registered dispensaries
- Barry Chaffin of Nova Analytic Labs, representing testing facilities
- Alex McMahan of The Healing Community MEDCo., representing product manufacturers
- Qualifying patients Patricia Callahan; Michelle Caminos, EdD, RN; and Sean McDonough
- Christopher Beaumont of the City of Portland and Rebecca McMahon, Esq., Maine Municipal Association, representing municipalities
The workgroup’s first virtual meeting will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and three subsequent virtual meetings are scheduled for October and November, according to Mainebiz.
The meetings are meant to generate next steps for legislation and rulemaking, as well as to find ways to streamline the OMP’s licensing and compliance processes, the news outlet reported.
