Lobbyists Seek to Expand Louisiana's Medical Cannabis Law

A statewide advocacy group is hoping to expand the number of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana.

MONROE, La. - Louisiana's current medical cannabis law allows doctors to recommend marijuana for six different diseases, but there are some who say that still isn't good enough.

According to lobbyist Tim Hitt, the law currently allows doctors to recommend medical marijuana to patients with HIV, Aids, cancer, Crohn's disease, muscular dystrophy and wasting disorder. However, Hitt says patients with PTSD and chronic pain do not qualify.
