Ariz. Attorney Hopeful Trump Administration Will Legalize MMJ


Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery touched on an array of recent issues at his regular Wednesday news conference, including controversial court rulings, telephone scams and upcoming initiatives to look for from his office.

While he is not involved in any conversations or participating in any transition activities, Montgomery said he has certain expectations of the upcoming Trump administration on marijuana laws.

"It's the job of the executive branch that laws are being executed," he said "Today we have a number of states, through their own process of declaring something medical, that created a patchwork system of regulations and programs around the country that are in direct conflict with federal law."

Montgomery said he hopes that Trump's administration will work with the U.S. Department of Justice and Congress to bring state programs into alignment and put medical marijuana under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval process.
