Round-the-clock security wanted for Chicago medical marijuana shops

A pair of powerful aldermen are calling for round-the-clock security at any marijuana dispensaries and cultivation centers approved to set up shop in Chicago and want to require the product be loaded and unloaded in secure areas.

Under the plan introduced to the City Council today by Ald. Edward Burke and Ald. Daniel Solis, "medical cannabis dispensing operations and cultivation centers shall be required to retain the services of an Illinois licensed private security contractor and maintain a private security contractor presence at their facilities 24 hours per day and 7 days per week."

And the loading or unloading "of any cannabis or cannabis-infused products... shall take place in a secure loading area and shall not be visible to the general public," the proposed ordinance states.
