Washington, D.C. – PRESS RELEASE  The National Cannabis Roundtable (NCR) announced today the addition of former Congressman Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., to its deep bench of respected federal policy advisors dedicated to moving cannabis reform forward, including former Senator Cory Gardner, R-Colo., former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jim Cole, former Secretary of Health Kathleen Sebelius, and former Speaker John Boehner. Congressman Perlmutter represented Colorado’s 7th Congressional District for eight terms before retiring at the end of the 117th Congress. A long-term member of the House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Perlmutter was the lead sponsor of the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act and a champion for common-sense cannabis reforms throughout his time in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to have the architect of SAFE Banking join our team at a time when we have seen historic progress on this bipartisan bill, which we know is thanks in no small part to the years of dedication by Congressman Perlmutter to move this critical, bipartisan measure forward,” said National Cannabis Roundtable Executive Director Saphira Galoob. “We look forward to having Congressman Perlmutter’s additional expertise on our team as we continue to guide legislative efforts to advance federal cannabis reforms – including getting SAFE Banking at long last signed into law.”

“When I retired from Congress, I made it clear that I remained as committed as ever to fighting the good fight, particularly when it comes to advocating for common-sense cannabis reforms and the enactment of the SAFE Banking Act,” said former Congressman Ed Perlmutter. “Ten years ago, when I first introduced SAFE Banking, I never could have imagined that within that decade we would see 38 states legalize cannabis programs and more than 300 bipartisan members of Congress vote for SAFE Banking – I also never could have imagined that that would not be enough to get it done. I am excited to be working now with the National Cannabis Roundtable, which has been a leader in reform efforts on Capitol Hill, to move forward SAFE and many other bipartisan, common-sense cannabis measures.”

The National Cannabis Roundtable is an alliance of cannabis companies, as well as ancillary services and solutions providers, who seek cannabis reform that nurtures the nascent domestic industry, protects consumers, and advances social equity.
