Editor's Note: Many will be pleased that the NFLPA is moving quickly to address what was nothing shy of an uproar over disproportionate penalties for Ray Rice and Josh Gordon. Gordon received a full-season supsension for testing positive (for a second time) for MJ, while Rice was suspended for just two games for domestic violence. Especially as MJ is now legal in two states, penalties and criminal prosecution for MJ possession and use are becoming a bigger social issue that will continue to drum up lots of controversy.Â
Tonight, the Board of Representatives for the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), voted to approve new policies for both substances of abuse and performance enhancing drugs in the National Football League. According to a spokesperson for the NFLPA, “The Board of Player Representatives gave the NFLPA authority to complete new policies with the League consistent with detailed term sheets the players reviewed. We hope to have final agreements, including effective date for players with adjusted discipline, very soon.”
These changes affect several aspects of the policy including the level of marijuana in a player’s system, to being disciplined for DUI, and beyond.
