Marijuana Growers in Deschutes County (Ore.) Feel Relief

Deschutes County Commissioners have signaled their intent to lift a ban on the growing and processing of recreational marijuana, clearing the path forward for those who’ve been aiming to launch new marijuana businesses.

Although commissioners last week agreed to repeal the ban, they must still adopt an ordinance to do so. It’s not likely an ordinance lifting the current ban will go in to effect until September.

The county’s ban and future rules apply only in unincorporated parts of Deschutes County; incorporated cities like Bend, Redmond, Sisters and La Pine set their own standards.

Two marijuana businesspeople expressed relief the county has figured out a way forward.
