A excerpt of a response that Washington Governor Jay Inslee and the state’s Attorney General Bob Ferguson sent to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Aug. 15. Sessions, in a letter to the state leaders, iterated that the Department of Justice (DOJ) could shut down the state’s regulated cannabis industry—citing a 2016 report of drug trafficking in the Northwest. Inslee and Ferguson accused the DOJ of cherry-picking data and omitting content for other claims to unjustly attack the state’s program.

First Green Bank Senior Vice President Lex Ford on the company’s decision to house accounts for Florida’s state-legal cannabis companies. The bank contracts with an armored pick-up service to collect cash from dispensaries and ship it to a Federal Reserve vault. While First Green Bank hasn’t made money from its cannabis-related accounts yet, the bank’s chairman Ken LaRoe expressed optimism that profits will come as the industry expands.
