MHR Brands, a Michigan-based hemp product manufacturer, recently recalled dozens of hemp oil tinctures after learning that the products were contaminated. The company “was recently advised by the Florida Department of Health of the presence of elevated heavy metals (lead) in some of its products.
The company announced the voluntary recall in late June. The FDA shared the notice last week, “only to benefit the public for informational purposes.”
See a full list of the recalled products here. The list includes Tasty Drops, A Clean Choice, BC Hemp Co. and other branded product lines serving both humans and pets.
The news follows an ongoing and increasing interest from the FDA in regulating hemp-derived CBD products. While those regulations are still expected sometime in the future, the administration recently published a document that provides some insight into clinical research on CBD.
“The FDA has commented that it recognizes the importance of CBD to the market, but the agency’s public comments do not appear to provide an indication of upcoming regulatory change or guidance,” Stef Fogel, a partner at global law firm DLA Piper, told Hemp Grower, this week.
