FoodChain ID, a food safety, testing and sustainability company, is now the exclusive certifying entity for the U.S. Hemp Authority (USHA) certification seal.
In an effort funded by the U.S. Hemp Roundtable and joined by other industry stakeholders like the Hemp Industries Association, industry firms, testing labs and agronomists, USHA developed comprehensive guidance for growers, processors/manufacturers, and brand owners of ingestible and cosmetic hemp products. Participants are licensed to use the USHA seal after meeting stringent self-regulatory standards, passing an independent third-party audit and entering into a licensing agreement, FoodChain ID says in a news release.
The seal helps those along the hemp supply chain assure legitimacy of their products. It became available for producers to use in early 2019.
“The U.S. Hemp Authority Certification Program is our industry’s initiative to provide high standards, best practices and self-regulation, giving consumers an easy way to identify hemp-derived products that can be trusted,” says USHA President Marielle Weintraub. “We are striving for ingredient transparency and truth in labeling.”
Recognized for its Non-GMO Project Verification labeling standard, FoodChain ID offers specialized services for the food, beverage, ingredient and food component (i.e. grain) industries, spanning the entire food supply chain. The company is also a major player in USDA Organic certification.
