SPRINGFIELD — As the list of businesses seeking to open recreational marijuana stores in Springfield continues to grow, the city is preparing to launch the process for accepting proposals, City Solicitor Edward Pikula said Tuesday.
The city is finalizing the details of its request for qualification/proposals, and expects to make an announcement in the next several days to initiate the process, Pikula said. Officials initially hoped to begin accepting proposals in early March.
In February, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced the selection of a committee with representatives from several city departments and the City Council to evaluate the applications for recreational marijuana shops. The city’s Internal Review Committee is developing the process “to assure a fair, comprehensive, and open planning process,” Sarno said then.
