As 4/20 approaches, dispensary owners and staffs are taking lessons learned from past years’ celebrations and turning their attention toward a broader customer base. Legalization around the U.S. has brought new customers into the fold, pushing retailers to meet new demands.
This year, we’re spotlighting a handful of deals and events that show the variety of dispensary strategies to capitalize on this most important sales day—and sales week, as we’re seeing more and more dispensaries unveil 4/20 deals in advance of the actual date.

The Las Vegas location will host a block party starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 to celebrate the city’s second 4/20 holiday with a legalized adult-use marketplace. The event will feature product specials, vendors, live entertainment and raffles, and concludes a week of deals running from Monday, April 15 through Saturday, April 20, which feature various specials from vendors. Purchases of $200 or more from April 15 through April 19 will include entry into a raffle to win a tour of The+Source’s cultivation and production facility, as well as two ounces of flower, and winners will be announced during the April 20 block party.
All 15 of TGS’ Colorado dispensary locations will host “Tacos and THC” parties, featuring taco trucks, customer specials and prizes from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. All stores except the ones in Silver Plume and Trinidad will host local taco trucks throughout the day, and customers who place an online order for pickup at express checkout will receive a ticket redeemable for a two-taco plate. TGS will also offer slim cones or NectarBee truffles for a penny with any purchase, and the first 20 customers at each location will receive a $20 gift certificate to use on their purchase.
Oakland’s Magnolia Wellness will host a 4/20 celebration featuring food trucks, live music, cannabis vendors, a dab bar, a vapor lounge, deals on purchases, arts and crafts, and volcano bags. The first 100 customers will receive $10 in store credit, and all others will get $5.
The San Francisco dispensary is splitting its 4/20 deals into two time slots—one from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and the other from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., or while supplies last. Each time slot features deals on certain vendors’ products, and with any purchase on April 20, customers will receive a wristband to gain access to the lounge, where vendors will offer samples, product education and giveaways. In addition, the first 100 customers will receive swag bags of Barbary Coast merchandise, including shirts, stickers, buttons, 10-percent off coupons (which can be used that day or in the future).
The JuJu Royal team is attending Kaya Fest on April 20 at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami, where they will sell the company’s CBD products. The event features musical acts such as Pitbull, Busta Rhymes and Sean Paul.
In Seattle, Wash., The Bakeréé will be using music and the power of intrigue to bring its customer base to the dispensary. Lil B and Toe Jam DJs will perform at the Based in the Cloud 420 show at 8 p.m. April 20—at a “secret location.” Those interested in checking out the concert must visit The Bakeréé’s Georgetown or Seattle locations for event entry.

Harvest of Tempe has been celebrating 4/20 all week with deals. On Thursday, April 18, the dispensary is offering Buy 2 Get 1 deals on all Item 9 concentrate products. When customers buy two Drip Diamond Tier concentrates for $100, all grams of high-grade brand shatter, budder and crumble concentrates are $20. On Friday, April 19, reserve, premium and house flower will see their lowest prices of the year. And on April 20, the entire week’s worth of deals—going back to Sunday, April 14—will be live.
In Gaudalupe, Ariz., The Mint boasts the country’s first made-to-order cannabis kitchen. If that’s not enough of a lure, the dispensary is offering pre-4/20 sales on plenty of products this Friday. The shop will feature classic BOGO deals on a broad spectrum of items: cartridges, flower, shatter, rosin, edibles and more.
Fox Cannabis is rolling out a series of 4/20 deals that took effect on Wednesday, April 17, capitalizing on retail trends borrowed from more traditional markets (department stores, for example, offering Black Friday deals before Thanksgiving). The Denver dispensary is offering $15 eighths, $15 100mg edibles, two-for-$60 500mg O.PenISH and Pyramid Prism cartridges and more. For $45, pick up the shop’s new branded T-shirt and hat bundle.
Stop by Chalice Farms’ downtown Portland location to take advantage of a nice plethora of deals: Two 1g cartridges for $60 or four grams of Artifact flower for $20. The first 50 customers in the door on 4/20 will get a gift with purchase (and all customers who make a purchase will be entered to win a Rose Gold Pax 3 vape product).
