Shimadzu Scientific Instruments Supports Medical Cannabis Testing at EVIO Labs Florida

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments and EVIO Labs Florida announce a collaborative relationship to support testing services for licensed cannabis producers and distributors.

COLUMBIA, Md. (November 12, 2018)—PRESS RELEASE—Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI), a provider of cannabis testing instruments, and EVIO Labs Florida have announced a collaborative relationship to support testing services for licensed cannabis producers and distributors that must ensure their products are safe for patients and compliant with state regulations.

EVIO Labs Florida, an independent third-party medical marijuana testing laboratory and the first ISO Accredited Cannabis Testing laboratory in the state, with locations in Davie and Gainesville, offers comprehensive cannabis testing for cannabinoid and terpene profiles, microbiological and pesticides contamination, residual solvents, heavy metals, mycotoxins, water activity and moisture content.

Equipped with cannabis testing equipment from SSI, EVIO Labs Florida can analyze more than 1,400 samples a day. SSI instruments include integrated high-performance liquid chromatographs (HPLC), designed specifically for quantitative determination of cannabinoid content. SSI also provided triple quadrupole Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometers (LC-MS/MS), key instruments in the analysis of pesticides and mycotoxins.

In addition, SSI supplied Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometers (ICP-MS) for sensitive trace element analysis to screen for heavy metals. Additional SSI instruments include a Gas Chromatograph (GC), triple quadrupole Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometers (GC-MS/MS), a Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, a moisture balance and laboratory consumables such as columns solvents, standards and reagents.

“Because Shimadzu is an innovator in cannabis testing instrumentation, using their equipment and having their support means our clients will receive results in an expeditious manner and patients will know that their medicine is safe and accessible,” said Chris Martinez, co-founder and president of EVIO Labs Florida.

“The state of Florida has seen exponential growth in its medical cannabis program, and EVIO Labs is at the forefront of ensuring safe, quality products,” said Dr. Bob Clifford, general manager at Shimadzu Scientific Instruments. “We are proud to work with the dedicated team at EVIO Labs and look forward to building on our current relationship.”
