McKeesport Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a conditional use application from PurePenn LLC to develop a plant that will cultivate and process medical marijuana.
PurePenn is in the midst of completing state applications, which are due March 20. If approved, PurePenn plans to locate an approximately 32,000-square-foot facility at 321 Locust Street in the Regional Industrial Development Corp.’s Riverplace Industrial Center.

Once PurePenn garners state approval, construction on the project should begin this summer and the facility should receive its operating permit next January.
The facility will grow marijuana plants that will then be manufactured into sublingual drops or capsules to be used to treat medical conditions.
