SHEVILLE - State legalization of medical marijuana appears dead for now despite backing from a wide array of local residents, elected officials and the region's top hospital executive.
Leaders of the Republican-controlled General Assembly refused to act on legislation to allow the use of cannabis for medical reasons in time to move it forward this session.

Also on the list of medical marijuana backers is Mission Hospital CEO Ron Paulus. That's according to City Councilman Cecil Bothwell and Ellen Frost, vice chair of the county Board of Commissioners, who said he made the statements to them.
