“We are confident that Metrc is the best partner to help Alabama institute a trustworthy, statewide seed-to-sale tracking system for our medical cannabis market,” AMCC Director John McMillan said. “We are eager to work side-by-side with the Metrc team to establish a well-regulated supply chain to ensure the long-term safety and security of patients and providers.”

Metrc’s contract with Alabama marks the company’s 23rd government contract overall, and its sixth  this year.

“As Alabama works to solidify its medical cannabis program, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to spearhead the state’s first-ever track-and-trace program,” Metrc CEO Michael Johnson said. “Our team at Metrc looks forward to working alongside the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission to build a strong regulatory framework that will create a marketplace with the strongest foundation, where patients are guaranteed safe consumption and licenses are provided an environment to thrive.”

Alabama became the 37th state to legalize medical cannabis without low-THC restrictions in May 2021 after Gov. Kay Ivey signed the bill following its passing in the state Legislature.
