The year is 2010, and Chris Ball is facing a 10-year prison sentence for trafficking cannabis from Canada to his hometown of Los Angeles. A professional football player in the Canadian Football League, his future is now up in the air.
“My life’s over, right?,” Chris says, looking back on that time in his life. “I’m like, holy shit, here come the feds. I’ve never been in trouble a day in my life. I was looking at a 10-year mandatory minimum on that case. I spent about a month in prison before my little brother (Charles) put up his condo to bail me out.” Out on pretrial release, Ball eventually accepted a plea deal with reduced sentencing of 30 months.
