[Press release] Orlando, FL (PRUnderground) May 5th, 2016 — BIOS Lighting, developers of world-class LED lighting solutions for the biological lighting market, today announced the new BIOS Icarus Vi low-profile LED fixture for vertical farming applications. BIOS Icarus LED fixtures provide broad “white” spectrum (not purple), along with the highest Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) photon efficacy in an industrial grade fixture for higher plant quality and yields. BIOS will showcase Icarus Vi in Booth # 1010 at the Marijuana Business Conference & Expo in Orlando, May 9-11. The company will also be discussing LED lighting deployments at Greenfield Alaska, Denver Relief, EnviroGrow in Connecticut, and Maine Organic Therapy.
BIOS Icarus Vi for vertical farming, provides superior PAR output through a broad white spectrum that is more effective for visual assessment of crop status than purple LED lights in the market. BIOS LED fixtures deliver up to 70% greater PAR photon efficacy and 50% more system efficiency than 1000W HID. With a vertical dimension of only 1.5”, Icarus Vi LED low profile fixtures can be mounted within 3’ or 4’ racking systems to deliver more uniform PAR levels over wide areas and multiple layers of production, maximizing crop yield per square foot.
Icarus Vi fixtures have an off-board LED driver and can be powered through an optional remote powering system based on VoltServer’s groundbreaking Digital Electricity over Class II wiring. This means that Iacrus Vi LED fixtures can be powered from a nearby climate-controlled server room using optical fiber cables or off-the-shelf CAT 5e wiring. This approach can significantly reduce equipment and labor costs, slash energy costs associated with expansive air conditioning, lower grow house temperatures—all while consuming 40% less energy required to produce an equivalent amount of delivered PAR than 1000W HPS.
“It is time to bring commercial crop production out of the ‘purple haze’ and into the white light, as BIOS broad white spectrum delivers the highest PAR photon efficiency along with clear cost benefits,” said Sean Tegart, President and CEO of BIOS. “Two-thirds of LED grow light fixtures on the market use purple light, which have no benefit above broad spectrum light for plant growth and are far less effective for visual crop assessment. Icarus Vi low profile LED fixtures outperform other LED lighting products on the market; when paired with the optional VoltServer Digital Electricity remote powering system, you’ve got a next-generation purple light killer for the cannabis market that offers immediate cost savings and realizable ROI.”
