On New Year's Eve 2014, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued the state's first ever medical marijuana  Certificate of Registration. The recipient is Alternative Therapies Group, Inc. in Salem, Mass. Not a bad way to kick off 2015.
The certificate allows ATG to begin growing and cultivating marijuana for medicinal use, though before they can open their doors they'll be subject to further inspections by MassDPH once the plants are fully grown.
According to MassDPH, these inspections will include a "review the organization’s floor plans, security, and cultivation operations to ensure product safety and quality; security, storage and transportation standards; and responsiveness to patient needs." Inspections will also be unannounced.
