Editor's Note: Georgia lawmakers are, at least, I suppose, on their way (hopefully) to allowing Georgia residents to access CBD oil, but at the same time, they're putting a lot of people at risk with the more-likely-to-pass (than HB 1) legislation that would provide "immunity" to Georgia residents who essentially smuggle in CBD oil from neighboring states. Â
According to an earlier report in Cannabis Business Times, "A closed-door agreement made in early January between Deal and cannabis advocate Rep. Allen Peake (R-Macon) would protect Georgia residents who smuggle CBD oil in from other states–a move that legalization advocates say only ties their hands." This is the legislation that is expected to pass. As CBT reported, "Legalization advocates say the proposal is all but pointless, since it requires Georgia residents to illegally transport a controlled substance across state lines. Colorado also requires CBD oil purchasers to sign a document that states they will not bring the extract out of state." Under federal law, cannabis (and CBD oil) remains illegal.
A manufacturer of cannabis oil says they will ship the oil to Georgia if lawmakers pass a bill that's at the state Capitol.
Channel 2 Action News has talked exclusively with a mother who says the oil saved her daughter's life and she knows it will do the same for countless others here in Georgia.
"Some of them have passed away in Georgia waiting for this and they never got a chance to try it," says Paige Figi.
Figi says she's ready to distribute cannabis oil in the state of Georgia, if lawmakers pass House Bill 1.
